Nigeria's various tribes widely used the scent leaf. It is known as "Efirin" in Yoruba, "Ahuja" or "Nchanwu" in Igbo, "Ganyen Kamsh" or "Doddo Ya" in Hausa, "Aramogbo" in Edo, "Ntonng" in Ibibio, and "Eleni" in some parts of Ijaw.

They primarily used it as a local ingredient in preparing 'Ofe Akwu,' pepper soups, porridge yams, Jollof beans, jollof rice, 'Ukwa,' and other dishes. The Benin people use it to make soups such as 'Ogbono', and Egusi. It is best known for cooking various delicacies.

There are numerous traditional herbs with unrivalled benefits. They either treat or prevent certain conditions from occurring. The majority of them can also be used as natural home remedies.

According to research, there are numerous advantages to consuming scent leaves. Scent leaf is high in nutrients and is also a well-known fertility booster. It is high in vitamin A, which promotes good vision. When a sufficient amount of scent leaf is consumed, it aids in the prevention of xerophthalmia. It contains calcium and magnesium, which help to lower bad cholesterol and increase blood circulation, thereby improving heart function.

The Advantages of Scent Leaf
The scent leaf is a fragrant herb which is more than just a pleasant-smelling plant. It contains powerful antibacterial, antifungal, larvicidal, and antipyretic components that aid in the prevention and treatment of infections and diseases. Some of the advantages are as follows:

1. Maintaining good vision

The scent leaf is high in Vitamin A, which the retina requires to function properly. It combines with the protein gene encoding to shape rhodopsin, a light-absorbing molecule. The molecule is essential for both low-light and colour vision. Vitamin A deficiency causes the following medical conditions:

2. Improving the heart's function

Magnesium and calcium are abundant in the leaf. The two components aid in the reduction of bad cholesterol in the blood, thereby increasing blood circulation.
Bad cholesterol is dangerous because it increases the risk of developing coronary artery disease, particularly in adults. Using scent leaves can help reduce this risk. They aid in the prevention of artery-clogging when consumed in sufficient quantities.

3. Assists with digestion

Scent leaves help to relieve bloating by allowing digestion to take place on time. They have a calming effect on the stomach when brewed. Additionally, bowel evacuation is facilitated. Drinking scent leaves tea can help people suffering from heartburn.

4. It lowers the body's blood sugar levels.

The leaves can help lower blood sugar levels and protect insulin-producing pancreatic islets from damage. Significant amounts of this leaf reduce blood sugar levels in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients.

5. We also used it as a repellent.

We can use scent leaves as mosquito and insect repellants because they contain cineole, camphor, and limonene, all of which are toxic to insects. To repel insects, place the leaves near insect-prone areas.
6. Preservatives in food
Because it contains antimicrobial properties, the leaf can be used as an alternative and inexpensive food preservation remedy. The ethanol extract from the leaf aids in the prevention of fungi and bacteria that cause food spoilage.

7. Pregnancy and scent leaf

Scent leaves provide many benefits to both the mother and the unborn child during pregnancy. They are a good source of vitamins, which are especially important during pregnancy. Among the other advantages are:
  1. Immune system booster
  2. Cramping relief
  3. headache relief

The advantages of bitter leaf and scent leaf show how important these herbs are to people's bodies and lifestyles. You are certain to prevent many illnesses and cure those that have already struck a person.
