Health Benefits of Banana That You Didn't Know About

The scientific name of the banana is Musa sapientum, which means the fruit of the wise men in Latin. This could very well be the reason why they are considered one of the most useful fruits in our daily diet. Apart from being loaded with nutrients, bananas also have many other health benefits that you might not know about and aren’t publicized by mainstream media as much as other superfoods such as kiwi or blueberries. In this article, I am going to reveal some of the health benefits of bananas that you might not have heard about before.

1) They help you fight stress

The Health Benefits of bananas are pretty significant. Studies have shown that the sugar in bananas is perfect for increasing your serotonin levels, which helps reduce your stress levels. You can take it one step further by using bananas as a snack to increase your potassium and magnesium intake, which fight heart-rate irregularities and muscle tension.

2) They are good for your heart

One of the many health benefits of bananas is that they are good for your heart. Studies have shown that eating a banana within thirty minutes after a period of aerobic exercise can help lower high blood pressure. Bananas are also rich in potassium, which can help lower your risk for stroke and may protect against coronary artery disease.

Banana nutrition facts say one medium-sized banana has about 120 calories, with 25% coming from sugar and 11% from protein.

3) They lower bad cholesterol

Bananas can be more than just a dessert when you need something sweet, they are great for your health. They have been shown to lower bad cholesterol and regulate blood sugar levels. Bananas are also a good source of potassium, which helps maintain the body's electrolyte balance and regulates heart function as well as muscle contraction, so eating bananas after a workout can help your muscles repair themselves.

4) They provide energy

Bananas are a great pre-workout snack or post-workout recovery food because they contain many different types of vitamins and minerals, such as B6 and C. These nutrients can help give you the energy to work out or the strength to recover from your workout. Bananas also contain potassium, which can help with muscle cramps caused by high electrolyte levels. Plus, potassium is important for preventing serious health issues like heart attacks and strokes.

5) Other uses of banana

In addition to the aforementioned uses, bananas are also a natural remedy for diarrhoea, fatigue, and high blood pressure. They are also known to be beneficial in cases of depression, cancer treatment, Parkinson's disease and diabetes.

Fibre-rich banana is a highly beneficial food source for people with both constipation and diarrhoea. It can lessen stomach discomfort from both conditions by balancing out the stool.
